Why I created Doodle-A-Day
Since I was young, when bored, I would scribble a line and then create something from it. One day in 2008 I thought it would be a great mental and creative exercise to begin each day. My first thought was to take a sticky pad and scribble a line on each page, then I thought, hey, this would make a great daily calendar – and Potts-A-Doodle was born!
After contacting a few publishers, Avalanche/Lang accepted the idea two days after it was presented to them for the 2010 calendar year. The publishers have already asked me to do a Doodle-a-Day 2011 calendar.
The doodle, to the right, that started it all!
The red line was my original doodle line in which I create this funny guy. That drawing inspired me to create the Doodle-A-Day Calendar.
About Amy Potts: I am a Web designer, marketer, graphic artist, computer programmer, water aerobics teacher, and single mom with two wonderful teenage daughters.
I have always been creative, coming up with new ideas – some far fetched, others ahead of their time. For instance, at age 12 I wrote to a soda company and suggested to them that they put a plastic liner in cans and put water in them for sale in vending machines. A product manager, from that company, wrote me back and said there would never be a market for water in vending machines. I laugh every time I walk by a water bottle vending machine.
